The grave mistakes of a first time blogger...

You've probably already seen it. I started this blog excited and full of energy, but with little thought put into it. I spent my time posting every SpongeBob-related observation I could think of.

But this blog was dead before it was born. I'm sure you know how it happened: I said, "maybe I should start a blog!" And then I did.

The bad news
I never considered the dedication required, or the commitment I was making, to have a fresh new post up six days a week; I didn't take the time to brainstorm, to find what made my blog stand out; and I never even thought to write up posts ahead of time.

It got worse. My peers didn't hesitate to tell me that I was obsessed with this show. It was all I ever talked about. It got to the point that I was afraid I was substituting cartoons for real life. So I took a break from SpongeBob.

A long break. Something else I never considered.

In short, this blog was doomed. I never even got to put up half the media I promised, because my file host was spitting out my music files.

So yes, I did terribly.

The good news
Well, you've probably gathered that I've returned, hopefully a bit more intelligent. The blog didn't have a chance--- but Monday's always a fresh start! ;)

It'll take some doing, but I hope to get a blog that's worth reading up and running. And I plan to work harder on other content, too, namely the official art section. I've got a new flash decompiler, and I'm using it to get better, higher quality images. If I can, I'll even upload the vector versions!

Toy Store of Doom review

I've been away from the TV for a while, and am ashamed to admit that I've missed most of The Bob Squad --- that is, the week of new episodes.

I don't have time to write an entire review right now, but I just got to see two of the new episodes. The first one (whose name escapes me) had SpongeBob trying to find home for a group of baby worms. It was, to be honest, a bit boring. Most of the humor was derived from the worms barfing on folks, and the mom did not look like a SpongeBob worm at all.

The second episode, Toy Store of Doom, was awesome. The story goes like this: SpongeBob and Patrick have grown bored of all their toys, but a new toy store called The Toy Barrel opens up nearby. They have the time of their lives in there, and don't want to leave at closing. They hide in dollhouses and wait until everyone's gone, and then they have the entire store to themselves.

But all isn't fun and games. Remember when you were seven, and whenever the lights went out your Power Rangers action figure--- you swear--- it turned into a werewolf? And mom said you were just seeing things in the dark? You're not the only one.

The rest of the episode covers their melodramatic attempts to "stop" the toys, whom they believe are out to get them.

Some of the dialogue fell a little flat, though. A few jokes seemed to come out of nowhere, but overall the humor was strong and effective. At times, SpongeBob seems a bit less mature than he should be, but I'm not quite sure that's saying much.

This episode is rather nostalgic to me, because I remember the thrill of a new toy store very, very well. It has its weak points, but it's a good watch. You won't regret it, and if you do, what's 11 minutes of your life?

"Well, Patrick, it was nice knowing you."
"I know; I'm an interesting person."

Christmas is over

Sorry for being gone so long. It was a bizarre combination of work, the holidays, and my ISP that prevented me from posting.

Starting tomorrow, I'll continue posting the sort of thing I was originally: random observations about the characters and canon, news, comics and official art.

For today, I just have one new comic up. It's been on Nick.com for a while, but heck, you never know when Nick.com will go down in a fiery explosion of doom, right? Right.

Also, when I get a chance, I think I'll post photos of some of my SpongeBob-themed Christmas presents. :D

...You'd better read this. I logged onto Nick.com in the wee hours of the morning and immediately got this pop-up message:

So, yeah. I don't know if the advice will work, but all future viewings of SpongeBob are at stake here!

Bah, humbug!

Well, Christmas is coming, which means I'm practically required to post.

So! For all you good boys and girls out there--- as well as all you who actually read this--- I've got a few episode reviews. Be warned --- spoilers ahead!

Ditchin'
This was actually a very enjoyable episode for me. The premise is like this: SpongeBob takes a "bathroom break" to sneak out of Boating School and go to a book signing, but on his way back is met by many distractions, including the Bikini Bottom Hugfest.

It had maybe one gross-looking shot and a few continuity errors, but hey, this is a cartoon. Overall, it was a very funny episode, and the melodramatic citizens of Bikini Bottom seemed natural and funny rather than forced and over-the-top.

The ending was also pretty funny. It wasn't too much of a twist, but was just right and tied the story up nicely. How many times has Mrs. Puff been arrested now?

Dear Vikings
This episode was kind of out there. SpongeBob wants to learn about vikings, so he writes them a letter. A garbage man who turned out to be a viking finds the letter, and the vikings come to kidnap SpongeBob and Squidward. It had a few good jokes, but I can't judge the acting because my sound was off and I was reading the captions.

The episode ended on sort of a dull note --- the vikings' ship has sprung a leak, and SpongeBob and Squidward solve the problem by catapulting Spongie into the hole to plug it up and absorb the water inside the boat. SpongeBob makes a lame joke, and it cuts, very suddenly, to commercial. They're still kidnapped by vikings, though. It's fine to end the episode with unresolved conflict (Shanghaied is a very good example of this), but Dear Vikings didn't make it funny, and gave the impression that it was rushed and had no ending.

I'll review the other new ones later. I want to watch them once more before I do so, so they're still fresh in my mind.

Return of the Stuffed Animals!

I finally got around to seeing No Nose Knows. I always come in right when it's going off, so I decided to park myself in front of the TV until it came on, no matter what was on. I can now tell you that My Life as a Teenage Robot is...odd.

So, how did the episode measure up? I have mixed feelings. The ending was a little gross, but not like, for example, the "toenail incident" on House Fancy. If you haven't seen it, be glad. Ooh, my feet hurt. Back to the episode, anyway.

So, Patrick has no nose. On the episode Something Smells (my personal favorite), it was shown he couldn't even smell, right? The premise is simple: Patrick wants to be able to smell like other people, so he gets plastic surgery to get a nose. This quickly poses a problem for his friends, as he goes out eliminating any bad smells, and is a jerk about it, too.

Honestly, this is the first time in a while that I have laughed out loud over a SpongeBob episode. It was an interesting twist to see Patrick of all people as a clean freak, since he had the motivation. The climax, as mentioned before, was kind of gross, but not like Plankton's Regular or anything. Still, it wasn't "good" gross, like The Appetizer.

The voice acting was also subpar. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the acting has gotten worse after season 4. Squidward and Patrick just didn't sound convincing, though.

In short: the episode was, overall, nothing special by my usual standards. However, it really did have it's funny parts, and the gag at the very end was funny. Nobody ever said every episode would be perfect, so just watch it already. :D

SPOILER ALERT!
The title makes no sense to anyone who hasn't seen the episode, I guess. There was one scene in which Patrick smelled something foul coming from SpongeBob's house, and heard SpongeBob grunting. My first thought: "He's sweating." I crossed my fingers and hoped he'd be working at his "gym" from the episodes Help Wanted and MuscleBob BuffPants.
Cut to SpongeBob at said gym, struggling to lift his "weights". He finally does succeed, only to drop them on top of himself. To add insult to injury, Patrick comes and tosses them away effortlessly. That one, due to being both funny and nostalgic, made me laugh SO HARD.

By the way, I'm going to start posting more.

My expectations were low...

SPOILER ALERT! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

This wouldn't be half so bad if everyone I knew hadn't thought WhoBob WhatPants was a movie. The specials in general are pretty bad, and this one is no exception. The story was...

SpongeBob annoys his friends, and they call him an idiot
SpongeBob runs away and gets bonked on the head
SpongeBob loses memory, and blows bubbles
A gang threatens him for blowing bubbles. He drive them out
He is appointed mayor
His friends go find him. Krabs is bribing Squidward to get him back, so Squid takes him back
SpongeBob gets hit on the head.

...And they all live cheesily ever after. There was a little humor, but not much. Some of the dialogue was pretty unconvincing, too. And, just to tick me off, after it was over, there came a commercial saying that I could see the whole thing tomorrow, talking about how it was SpongeBob's GREATEST ADVENTURE, and how I can see THE STUNNING CONCLUSION all over again!

"Stunning conclusion?!" He got bonked on the noggin for cryin' out loud! There was little pacing, and hardly anything interesting happened. It could've beena decent story if it was longer, but it was 22 minutes total, which is hardly enough.

It did have its good points, though; The opening was rewritten to say "WhoBob WhatPants" instead of "SpongeBob SquarePants", and there was one really funny part: Sandy pointed to a picture of SpongeBob saying, "It's SpongeBob!" Patrick runs up to the next person he sees, hugs her, and acts as though it's SpongeBob, saying he hasn't changed a bit.
Aaaaaand, it didn't have Patchy.

Overall, the story still seemed sloppy and rushed. Nothing happened after SpongeBob became mayor except that Squidward took him home and he got hit on the head. The end.

You're slippin', Nick...you're really slippin'.

THERE IS NO THIRD MOVIE

Ya'll're gonna kill me, I'm afraid. I looked it up on multiple websites, and they all said WhoBob WhatPants was a movie. It isn't. A few sites even said the running time was an hour and a half. That's what I get for using other fansites as my sources, I suppose.

I wondered why there wasn't as much hype as expected. But it's not a movie; pure and simple. It's an episode. I'm very embarrassed now, and I feel silly for trusting any of "sources". Excuse me while I go hide in the corner.

Thing is, I can't blame the sites I read it on, because they just repeated what they heard...like I did.

WhoBob WhatPants

FOUR DAYS

I just saw an ad referring to it as "WhoBob WhatPants". Since it's supposed to sound like SpongeBob SquarePants, I guess that makes sense.

I also noticed multiple commercials referring to it as a special, not a movie. The official website lists it under "Hot Shows" but not under "Movies". I know that WhoBob WhatPants is an hour and a half long, and all the specials are half an hour, but nobody ever said those were the specific, unwritten and unbroken rules, right?

But then, it's longer than Atlantis SquarePantis, which was only an hour long. It would be kind of silly to have an episode longer than your movie. I guess that's probably enough to count it as a movie....

I added a new picture of SpongeBob, and three new images to the Other Stuff official art section. Aside from that, I've been experimenting making the comics page look neater and I think I've finally got something.

I also put up, at the bottom of the comics section, a page for related comics. I've got a Wizard of Id strip and a Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour comic, both of which contain mention of SpongeBob.

I keep getting the date for Who Bob, What Pants? wrong. It's only about two weeks 'til it airs, though. I think it's either sixteen or fifteen days.

I mentioned a while back that I was getting Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition. I'm not expecting anything special, but I bought it because it has DoodleBob. Sure enough, the polygons are ugly, the dialogue is flat, and I caught a plothole in the opening scene. Long as I'm with DoodleBob, right?

It has a few features the original Drawn to Life didn't have that I like; for example, in the SpongeBob one, you can buy new furniture, redraw it, and rearrange the things in your house. The gameplay's pretty good, being built off the original Drawn to Life. The first couple of levels were genuinely fun, but I haven't played since my fifth attempt at the third one.

The third one is a touch-based minigame with unresponsive controls. Yeah, I've calibrated my Touch Screen and everything, but the controls are just plain loopy! The game is ignoring me, I swear. It's true that a good minigame is fun in between platformer levels, but honestly, have they never heard of beta testing?

I'm just griping. I'll get through it eventually. Maybe. It's stupidly long. But hey, I gotta have DoodleBob, right? Anything for him, right?

Believe it, man; I'm a fangirl

I was once told that I'm not a SpongeBob fan if I don't like video games based on SpongeBob. I later beat the person who said that at Fact or Fishy, mostly by answering more questions properly than he.

Face it --- I'm obsessed with SpongeBob. I dedicate every breath I breathe to the man! When, for some reason, I can't watch an episode, I spend the hours reading interviews with Stephen Hillenburg (may he live forever); I have every song off the show recorded and have written lyrics sheets for them (okay, not all...somewhere between sixty and eighty); I started a blog so I could babble about random, SpongeBob-related nonsense, upload over 200 official images I searched all over teh intarwebs for, and upload all the comic scans in case Nick.com should ever get rid of them!

I've written songs about SpongeBob. Serious songs, silly songs, songs that can only sound good coming from the mouth of Tom Kenny....

I've seen every episode, paid close attention to all the little details, rewatched every episode, observed the different styles of the different show writers, and taken my knowledge to write a fan fic trilogy to bring back Doodlebob, save the seemingly hopeless marriage of Plankton and Karen --- Enemy In-Law was not canon, people --- and expose Stephen Hillenburg's (may he live forever) ingenius plot to take over the world through television, all in one melodramatic storyline.

I can tell you the voice actors of Mama Krabs, Bubble Bass, DoodleBob, Bubble Buddy, Jim, and Stanley.

I AM A FANGIRL. YOU SHALL NOT TELL ME OTHERWISE.

The book based on the movie based on the book

Earlier, while browsing around http://amazon.com/, I found a book for sale based on Who Bob, What Pants? Who Bob is based on a book called "For the Love of Bubbles". This means they've got...

The book...

...based on the movie...

...based on the book.

Ingenius, eh? Maybe ungenius. Or something. It's silly, though. It's like doing a novelization of the Lord of the Rings movies.

Well, maybe not; truthfully, I don't know how similar Who Bob is to For the Love of Bubbles. For all I know, they're two completely different stories, but the movie is supposedly based on it.

I found the concept of basing a book on a movie that was already based on a book funny, though. :) Ah, well. Here's hoping Who Bob, What Pants will be good!

The problem with the new episodes

Boy, where to start? First off, I'd like to note that I'm not the sort who will criticize something simply because it's a new episode. I don't care if it's season one or season one hundred; if it's funny and well-written, I like it. Some of my favorite episodes have been after the movie, but most of them are not funny and well-written. I think I'll review each season seperately.

Post-movie differences
The movie, being, ya know, the movie, had cleaner line art, good framerate, fancy camera tricks, more shading, and brighter colors. That was fine. It was kind of nice. Problem being, even with those aspects aside, it looked like they were trying out a totally new art style, particularly on Spongey's face. I can't even place my finger on exactly what it is, but his face tended to look ugly and ill-proportioned, and his facial expressions often seemed out there. I mean, sure, "out there" is fine, but I mean too out there.

Season 4
The writing also changed. SpongeBob would sometimes be his normal self; other times, they'd greatly exaggerate certain aspects of his character, until he was a caffeine-fueled two-year-old; other times he'd be very aggressive, hanging onto his sanity by a thread, and incredibly easy to send into a rampage. The writers could've easily used Patrick for parts like this, I think.
Aside from this, Sandy became much stupider, but they put more emphasis on the fact that she was smart. It's like a Mary-Sue fan fic; they talk about these great traits the character has, but they show us nothing.

Aside from this, the humor just lost it's edge.

Season 5
Season 5 fixed many problems with the art, and some with the writing. They got SpongeBob out-of-character less often, but when they did, they sure did. Aside from this, they fleshed out SpongeBob's evident but ignored clean-freak side, and brought back some of his geekier traits which made him so dang endearing. Not to say it was perfect; season 4 seemed like they had no ideas for storylines, but season 5 made it seem like they had plenty of ideas, but couldn't work them properly. Also, unfortunately, season 5's idea of visual humor was drawing Plankton with a bottom.
Speaking of Plankton, as of one season 4 episode his marriage to Karen has been a bad one. Later episodes show this, and what was previously a nice, evil couple has become hideously depressing. Sandy was, for the most part, back in character. SpongeBob was, except for being overly whiny on occasion, and being too close to Squidward.

Season 6
So far, season 6 has been a mixture of seasons 4 and 5. Some episodes are great, some...not so much. For humor, season 6 has relied on rear ends less, but has made up for it with...disgusting injuries.
I'll explain: I'm totally fine with it if Bugs gives Daffy dynamite, the dynamite blows up, and the last we see of Daffy is an angel. That's fine.
I do, however, have something against seeing Plankton's innards, Squid's graphic toe injuries, and an entire episode dedicated to SpongeBob's swelling, infected, pus-oozing splinter!
It's not all like this, but a good deal of it has been. So far, it's not been great, but it has had some decent episodes, and a few outright great episodes.

Keep in mind, though I've listed every flaw in these three seasons, there are episodes in all of them that are shining exceptions. And besides, the first three seasons weren't flawless; they had things like...well...I know they had...hm.... Okay, so they were flawless.
Nickelodeon has confirmed a season 7. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but I'm gonna watch all of it. All of it!

Technically, Who Bob, What Pants? is a part of season 6, but I have a good feeling about it. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic? ...Nah. :)

Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition

Second post today! Woot. Oh, before I go on, there's a new comic up.

Drawn to Life was a game where you could draw your own characters, weapons, and other things with the DS stylus. The premise was that there were a bunch of bunny-like people called Raposas. One Raposa, Wilfre, has stolen the Boof of Life, which their God wrote in. Everything written in it came to life. Wilfre tried to change reality as he saw fit and rule, but his creations came out black and twisted. Now, the village the Raposas inhabit is trapped in an endless winter and near empty, because everyone has left. The mayor's daughter calls out to their God (you) and asks you to send them a hero. Thus, you draw your hero to life.
It was a cute game, though it contained a badly-written tragedy in it, the storyline was good and the ending scene---unless you're a ten-year-old boy---was a tearjerker.

What does this have to with SpongeBob, you ask? A spin-off, using the original engine, was released on the fifteenth entitled Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition. For real. Truthfully, I don't care much for games based on cartoons. But this is interesting to me because, for one thing it's based on a game I loved. For another thing, the villain happens to be the character who is the protagonist of tons of my fan fiction: DoodleBob!
It's loosely based on the episode Frankendoodle. Basically, DoodleBob uses the pencil to draw himself a badly-drawn army, and you must save his captives. Hmm...it sounds a lot like a fan fic I wrote....
Since it's based on the episode, but promises to be nothing like it, it doesn't really have a place in the SpongeBob canon. Hey, who cares? This DoodleBob fangirl wants. that. game. It's on my birthday list. ;D

SpongeBob's instrument of choice

No news, so I'm just back to posting random bits of SpongeBobness I've noticed.

Normally, things what instrument is played by a character who doesn't play often doesn't stay consistent. If it's not been said that the character particularly likes that instrument, then it's not really important enough for the writers to make note of again and again. That's why I think this is sort of cool: SpongeBob normally plays something with strings, and Patrick's normally a drummer.

SpongeBob actually plays a pretty wide variety of instruments. The ones I recall him playing most often are guitar and ukulele, but on the episode New Digs, he showed some talent for drums. Just a few occasions, off the top of my head:

Overhyped, underhyped, whatever; 26 days!

Argh! It's nearly a month until Who Bob, What Pants? premieres, and I'm sitting here yanking my hair out in impatience! But I've noticed a pattern: whenever Nickelodeon hypes something A LOT, it turns out to be pretty lame. SB: Atlantis SquarePantis; FOP: The Big Superhero Wish; JN: --I think it was this one-- Win, Lose, Kaboom, and on and on. They might've had some good points, but they didn't live up to the hype.

But what about stuff that wasn't hyped as much? Sometimes they hype new episodes of things, but the ones with less hype were the ones that were best. Nine years ago, the day the second SpongeBob episode aired, do you remember commercials saying things like, "Tonight...one Sponge...rips his pants!!"

No? You don't? Exactly.

I've seen very few ads for Who Bob, What Pants? on Nick.com, I've never seen a commercial for it on TV, and I've not seen magazine advertisments. Do you hear any hype coming from anyone but the fans?

No? You haven't? Exactly.

SpongeGeeks, keep your fingers crossed. And your toes, teeth, eyes, and shoelaces. That way, when October comes...we'll be ready!

New Kelp City

I read most of this on the Wikipedia, so I can't promise it's reliable.

On Who Bob, What Pants? bubble-blowing is outlawed in New Kelp City. That is, until our amnesiac hero uses his own bubble-blowing skills to drive out the oppressors who have made it so.

Wow. I cannot make that sound anything less than lame....

SpongeBob, confused and searching for his identity, is now considered a hero among the citizens, and is elected mayor for his bravery. He finds himself happy and fulfilled, until a group of "strangers" (Patrick, Sandy, Squidward and Krabs) comes to try to take him home to Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob has not only forgotten them entirely, but has grown attached to the city that declared him its leader.

Oh, the drama! Does he stay? Does he go home? And how could he ever mistake his love for an undersea weasel? And why did Squidward go along? While I'm at it, what is the meaning of life?!

Actually, I'm looking forward to this movie. I really, sincerely believe that Nick may do something right this time, but every pessimist I know tries to convince me otherwise. It's okay; I'll stay optimistic. Aaaaand... if it is bad, it's not the end of the series, right?

Right?

The Patty Caper

I saw this later last night. I've gotta say, it was better than Plankton's Regular. This one made me laugh and I liked the storyline. I saw a review saying it was reused from The Smoking Peanut, but it's really not. I suppose the "who dunnit" element is similar, but it was more the main plot with this episode and just a subplot with the latter.

SpongeBob was sent to pick up the secret ingredient for the Krabby Patty formula. It was very heavily guarded, and it looked like nothing had gone wrong -- 'til he opened the case! The ingredient was gone, and in the middle of the case there was a clean, round hole, one that could only be cut in the case. I'm sorry to say, I accidentally read who did it before I saw the episode. I was slightly annoyed that they didn't tell exactly how the thief did it, though.

No more spoilers. It did get a little annoying at parts, but overall, I thought it was a good episode. That said, watch it. ;)

Plankton's Regular

Finally saw this ep today. I hated it.

Basically, it went like this: Plankton has been talking to Karen, because he's depressed and thinks he's a failure. Karen couldn't care less, and makes that known. Then---surprise, surprise!---a guy comes in and buys some chum. He likes it so much, he comes back daily. Krabs and SpongeBob apparently can't accept the fact that they have tons of customers and Plankton has one, so they try to get the guy to eat at the Krusty Krab instead. Finally, they try to steal Plankton's formula. As it turns out, the guy hates chum; Karen paid him to eat there so Plankton would stop whining. The episode closes with Krabs enjoying Plankton's sobbing.

It was boring, had no humor, and the whole thing was just pointlessly cruel to Plankton, who wasn't even doing anything wrong---Krabs was! Karen was out of character, and her voice was off. On older episodes (such as Plankton's Army), she, being his sole confident, listened to him and tried to cheer him up. On current episodes, you gotta wonder why they're married!
Also, it was pointlessly violent for the sake of...well, pointless violence. I mean, funny, cartoony violence is okay. But there were two scenes of characters being ripped open, and it wasn't funny or cartoony, it was gross. I've always found that sort of stuff disgusting and the abundance of it in the current episodes is...kind of upsetting. To me, anyway. I'll admit they had a little of it on older episodes, but bwargh!!

You all remember my post, My Bizarre Daydreams, right? Well, I have more on that. I've written a song and rewritten it again and again over the years. The final draft is almost done, and I'm gonna do it. I'm Ready!

...I wish. : I feel silly. I know that nobody knows who I am, so there's no need to be embarrassed, but still. The last thing Nickelodeon wants is some random hick kid sending them a letter shouting "OMG PLZ CAN SONGEBOB SING DIS?!"

Fortunately, I ain't some random hick kid, and I can spell. I'm awfully fond of the word ain't, but I decided that, to make a good impression, I should remove the ain'ts from my letter. The finished letter is pretty professional looking, in my opinion. After double-checking the letter to make sure it didn't reek of stupid kids and plagiarism, I chose a nice, readable serif font and printed it off and signed it in the best cursive I could do. At first I was wondering if that looked like a form letter, but I dug up a letter from Nintendo of America I had saved. They did the same thing, and the letter was clearly not a form letter.

I'm trying not to look like I'm trying to look overly professional, but I'm also trying not to look like an overeager SpongeBob fangirl who stole some song off the radio and replaced the singer's name with SpongeBob. Which I didn't. It's only slightly based on another songs, and those are two songs off of SpongeBob's CD, The Best Day Ever, based on them in style only.

I'm in over my head alright. My dream isn't even to contribute to a SpongeBob episode, it's just to hear him sing it whether it's on the show or not. Meaning I'd just be satisfied tracking down his voice actor and getting him to sing it for me. Boy, it'd be creepy watching a perfectly human-looking guy sing something I wrote in SpongeBob's voice.

I've given them the URL to a recording of the song, but I wonder if they'll even listen to it. Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained! :) Yeah, I'm gonna send the letter...soon...I guess... O_o

I'm in a better mood now. :) I made a short list of goofs on SpongeBob. It's not nearly all of them; I just wrote down the ones off the top of my head.

Procrastination - SpongeBob writes 'spotlight' instead of 'stoplight.'

Plankton! - When he walks into his pants, SpongeBob's tie is black for a few seconds.

Club SpongeBob - When Squidward asks the Magic Conch for food, his tentacle is yellow.

The Gift of Gum - SpongeBob says, 'It's still Best Friends Day,' despite the fact that two days have passed.

I Was a Teenage Gary - When his arm falls off, SpongeBob comments that it's okay, he's a lefty. But his left arm fell off. Besides, he's ambidextrous.

Breath of Fresh Squidward - SpongeBob states that he has gotten a zillion and six Employee of the Month awards. By the movie, he only has around 300.
(Afterthought: on the movie it's 300 *CONSECUTIVE* awards, and Squidward got one on the aforementioned episode, so I guess it doesn't count.)

Best Frenemies - In the first airings of this episode, Plankton's mouth was bright purple on the inside.

Friend or Foe? - It's stated that Plankton accidentally helped Krabs create the Krabby Patty secret formula. But on Enemy In-Law, it was an old Krabs family recipe.

Friend or Foe? - Krabs is shown not to know what money is until Plankton tells him. However, when he was young, his father gave him a dollar, at least, according to My Pretty Seahorse. He loved that dollar...and there was a video of him, much younger, with a quarter on The Krusty Krab Training Video.

Friend or Foe? - Krabs' family poor. Krabs is wearing rags. (Of course, poor Plankton's naked.) So how did Krabs' mother afford her dress? Maybe that's why they were poor...?

Rule of Dumb - Patrick is said to be the result of inbreeding on this episode, but his family tree does not show it.

Rule of Dumb - Er...ah...on Patrick's family tree, Carl's parents are both ...Princes. *blushes and hides face*

Driven to Tears - Patrick's eyes are said to be black on his license. On Wormy, however, they were green.

Dunces and Dragons - King Krabs pronounces gulloitine (gee-uh-teen) as it is spelled. Gullotines weren't even invented yet. Hey...maybe that's why he didn't know how to say it! :D

Frankendoodle - SpongeBob sticks the pencil back together with a band-aid. With DoodleBob's half sharpened, however, it would not fit together properly.

I hate talking to people. Nobody ever listens, nobody ever makes an effort to follow. I'm either going too fast or too slow, and if I mention something they're not wild about in passing, the conversation ends right there. I always log on here when I want to talk. Problem is, this is a SpongeBob blog. I've got SO MANY more things to talk about than SpongeBob. :( I know like two people who will listen to me, and the one I like isn't home right now.

In actual, slightly-SpongeBob related news, I can watch TV again on the eighth, so I'll post my thoughts on the new episodes.

*sigh* I guess I'd better listen to track 2 on The Best Day Ever.

Deleted Scenes

You remember Just One Bite, right? It's the episode where Squid decides he likes Krabby Patties. There was a scene cut from it, where Squidward first entered the Krusty Krab to find that the "security system" was a bucket of water propped up above the door. He was unimpressed, to say the least. A second later, though, he realized by the scent that it wasn't water...it was gas. Right on cue, a robotic hand lit a match.
RavenMileyandAFVRock was kind enough to upload it onto YouTube.

Why was this cut? Some people said that it was because this was a form of "sneaky terrorism." Another explanation, and the most likely one, is that it was because it would show children that gasoline + fire = boom, and the people were afraid of kids playing with explosives.

This wasn't the only deleted scene; Procrastination had a few. In the first one, SpongeBob is just beginning to write his essay when he looks out the window. The sun is smiling, Squidward's tanning, kids are playing, the Jellyfish are having a rousing game of tennis. Among the frolic and happiness was Patrick rubbing sunscreen on Sandy, which is why it was removed.

The second removed scene on Procrastination was where SpongeBob comments that he has to get his essay done so he'll be one step closer to earning his license. Cut away to a live-action dragster driving off and flipping over.

Last, and definitely not least, at the end of The Secret Box, during its first airings...we got to see the embarrassing snapshot of SpongeBob at the Christmas party! ...Or so I heard, anyway. If anyone could confirm this information, or has a video of any of these scenes, please comment.

I think a bit of the smiling-sun-playing-kids scene from Procrastination could be seen in the Best Day Ever music video.

Sponge Boy

I'm sure we all know a bit about the creation of SpongeBob...how he was to be named Sponge Boy, and all that. I'd been looking for a source for the information, and I finally found it. A book entitled Makin' Toons: Inside the Most Popular Animated TV Shows and Movies. I haven't had a chance to run down to a book store or library because everything's closed for Labor Day, but I found it on Google Books. Rather than write down the entire section on SpongeBob, I'll just link to it. Linky.

Yeah, the book's going on my birthday list. ^_^ I was thinking about the 'Sponge Boy' thing, and I guess there've been a few references to it on the show. For example, on Frankendoodle, SpongeBob called DoodleBob 'Doodle Boy' at first, then later changed it to 'Bob.'
On Squeaky Boots, Krabs, nervous and high-strung, mistakenly said, "Sponge Boy, me bob!" XD

The SpongeBob SquarePants movie

(Note: I don't have the source, but I read that Mr. Hillenburg said the movie took place after the series ends, which explains the lack of Krusty Krab 2 on the show.)

Remember, way way back in '04? Season 3 had come to a close, and the world thought SpongeBob was cancelled, especially with the announcement that there'd be...a movie!

This is a big event! This was THE SpongeBob movie. A theatrical presentation for all us SpongeGeeks out there! Now, I didn't get the chance to see it in theaters, but it's just as well because I can't imagine watching Patrick...er, streaking to the extreme on such a huge screen. I'd be the ten-year-old with her face buried in her hands.

The movie had it's good points and it's bad points. It kinda tried to get away with more than a regular SpongeBob episode, and is actually a subject of some censorship. XD They didn't use any obscenities, but the Goofy Goober Rock song was censored for TV, and they rarely show the uncensored version.

As for the good points, I thought it was hilarious. Aside from the whole Patrick thing. SpongeBob and Patrick drunk and pestering a waiter was truly a rare site, because I've never thought of SpongeBob as the guy to run out and get drunk all night. Even if it's from ice cream. And the Now That We're Men song remains one of my favorites from the series. And Patrick's first meeting with Mindy was pretty funny. "She's purty, SpongeBob!" "You're HOT!" Good gravy, isn't this the sort of thing Neptune would BEHEAD a guy for?

I thought that the moral fell a little flat. SpongeBob acts like a child, but he's clearly an adult. Krabs' "you're just a kid" speech honestly sounded very forced. I also thought Squidward was out of character. They tried to do his usually kinda bored-and-uncaring thing, but instead it came across as, "you can kill people and take over the world, but I'd better get paid!!" One reason that's awful is 'cause Squid has been shown to actually care whether SpongeBob lives or dies.

And Neptune was kinda awful. They redesigned him and changed his personality completely. Since on the show, even after the movie, they've shown old Neptune, I just like to assume movie-Neptune is show-Neptune's son.

I thought the very end was pretty satisfying. The power-of-music-deus-ex-machina didn't suspend disbelief, but I felt pretty good afterwards when little old Spongey was a hero, a manager, and declared it the best day of his life just as the credits music began to play. Then, as the credits roll, we see images of a truly fulfilled sponge living his dream as manager of the Krusty Krab 2. No more fry cooking? Don't worry, I'm sure Krabs places a workload on him...

ANOTHER Who Bob, What Pants? commercial

It looks interesting. SpongeBob, being a famous fry cook, generally good friend of all the citizens, and having saved the world through the power of music once, is truly an important person. He may be far more important to the town than was first thought, though, because the commercial shows some sort of chaos breaking out without him.

Don't say that to the Spandy 'shippers, Spongey.

The website says, "When SpongeBob tries to spend some quality time with his pals, he ends up being a real pain in the square pants and they tell him to get lost, so he does. But will he ever come back, or is SpongeBob lost forever? Will Bikini Bottom survive without him? Tune in on October 13th to find out!"

The airdate of our movie has been confirmed. I hope it's good, I hope it's good, I hope it's good...The whole "amnesia-by-being-bonked-on-the-head" thing is kinda silly and cliche, but let's not judge the movie by a very basic premise. :)

In my opinion, though, SpongeBob isn't the kinda guy who needs a lot of movies. Jimmy Neutron was fine with it (can't say I'm a big fan of that show), and Fairly OddParents did well with several movies. But SpongeBob waited a few years before making a movie, and that was a big thing! It was THE SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, and it was even in theaters. I heard that Mr. Hillenburg wanted to cancel the series after the movie, but Nickelodeon had other plans. It was THE movie...a big, dramatic event SpongeBob had never experienced before, where he was allowed to truly save the world and rock out on the big screen. The show continued normally after that, but the movie had it's place among the episodes.
(It's supposed to take place after all the episodes are over, so some people believe it has faded from the canon.)

Then, a few years later, they made Atlantis SquarePantis. It, in my opinion, would've worked better as a half-hour episode, as it had little plot, bad music, and retconned everything. LRH? What about Neptune and Mindy?

Less than a year later, we learn Spongey's got a third movie on the way. Go, SpongeBob! Redeem yourself with your new movie, and leave awestruck viewers cheering for more!

Yeahh, I've been lazy. It was a lazy, rainy, depressing week and my website was down for reasons beyond my control, so I just bundled up and read Calvin and Hobbes 'til everything blew over. It was all very "blah," and I couldn't watch television, meaning I couldn't watch Spongey.

Anyway, though, back on subject. In a computer class I'm taking, we're working with Microsoft Powerpoint. We can make a presentation about anything, no matter how stupid it is (as long it's not obscene...), but the default subject is one about yourself.

The "myself" subject is kinda boring, even if I make it about bowing to me and all that, so I was thinking that it had to be SpongeBob-themed. Now, what the heck could I do a SpongeBob presentation about? I'm considering:

Sorry for not posting in a while. I've been slightly sick and life's been crazy. Fortunately, I've got an update on the third SpongeBob movie. Nick.com put up a commercial for Who Bob, What Pants? on Turbonick. You can watch it here.

Looks interesting, to say the least. The old "amnesia by getting bonked on the head" is perhaps a bit too cliche to base an entire movie on, but there's a chance that they'll do it well. Besides, (to my knowledge) the whole deal with mayor sounds unique. Of course, for all I know it's all a reference to something I've never watched, like, for example, Karate Island contained references to some movie I'd never heard of.

That being said, watch the commercial. :)

I was on a some foreign Nickelodeon websites, and BOY, I came across some weird stuff. Including over twenty new wallpapers which are in the wallpaper section.

One thing I found is a wallpaper with hints of SquidwardxSandy. YES, SQUIDWARDXSANDY. One wallpaper had them standing next to each other in a large group picture. They took an official picture of Squid and edited him so he was smiling, wearing a bow tie, and holding Sandy's hand. Heck, that ain't a hint; they're both practically screaming, "MARRY ME!!"
EDIT: I just noticed, SpongeBob's also holding her hand. Darn it.

Another thing was Pearl's profile on one site:
"Pearl is the lovely daughter of Mr Krabs and literally the largest teenager on the planet. Possessing the biggest brain in Bikini Bottoms, she is probably the most intelligent citizen as well. Yet, she is still immature and prone to tantrums. Her interests are the same as those of an average Girl: cheerleading, the mall, loud music, and boys, boys, boys! She's gifted in math, so naturally her father tries to interest her int he exciting life of restaurant book keeping. Her response? "I'm so sure, Daddy!" Pearl is more interested in fads than counting french fries."

I guess they changed her personality in some of the dubs. O_o The biggest brain? Most intelligent? What about Sandy or Plankton? Heck, what about PATRICK?

It's the Best Day Ever!

I added a few new official pictures as well as wallpapers. 215 official pictures now. The first picture of Sandy now has a complete ear and alpha.

I really like the song, The Best Day Ever. I think it's cute, funny, and charming. I'll listen to the TV version, the movie version, the soundtrack version...anything, really. The movie version (that is, the normal version) is my favorite, though.

Nobody I know takes the lyrics to heart as much as I do. I, personally, try to have the same attitude SpongeBob has throughout the song. The day he's describing sounds like it could be the worst day of your entire year. Leave it to Spongey to put a positive spin on everything from the sunlight waking him up to two hours of boredom.

One thing that is definitely me in this song is the line, Sometimes the little things start closing in on me. Really, it seems like the things that are hardest to ignore and easiest to ruin your day are the things that matter the least in the long run. Whenever I'm in a funk (and believe me, I often am), I pop my SpongeBob CD into CD player and immediately go to my favorite track. Guess what track that is? ;)

Johannsen?

It seems to have faded from the canon that Squidward's middle name is Johannsen. I think it was stated ONCE, on Nick.com. I think it was on the back of one of the first-series SpongeBob E-Collectables, so I guess it's debatable whether it's canon or not.

Of course, on the Behind the Scenes features on the movie, Squid's voice actor introduces himself by saying he voices "Squidward J. Tentacles." Huh. If it is canon, I wonder why it's not been said. I guess it doesn't really have to be, though.

Sort of like how, on Camp Lazlo, the creator told me that Jane pulled Lumpus out of the asylum and they all lived happily ever after. Wasn't shown on the show, though, so it's canon status is debatable. VERY debatable.

I'm getting off topic here. Anyway, I like that middle name. Squidward Johannsen Tentacles. It just has a cool ring to it! There aren't too many good names that start with a Y, ya know. Actually, Johannsen (obviously) doesn't, but the J is pronounced like Y, so...kinda the same thing.

Ugly, canibalistic Food City SpongeBob

In the Food City in my town, there's a seafood section. Normal, right?

WRONG.

Hanging up around it, there used to be some construction paper cut-outs of SpongeBob and Patrick that looked like they were done by Squidward. Except Squidward isn't a canibal. SpongeBob had a word balloon talking about how much he LOVED seafood. They were so ugly!

SpongeBob was a perfect rectangle, unrecognizable as even a dish sponge. Pat was star-shaped...perfectly star-shaped, like one you'd see on an American Flag. Their expressions were blank and somewhat alien, and their mouths were perfectly round. It was creepy, man!

I wanted to snap some photographs and post them, but when I went back to the grocery store, they were gone. Well, darn it! D:

In unrelated news, I fixed the 'Gary' section in Official Art, added two new images under 'Groups,' and put another image of a bubble under 'Other Stuff.'

Spongey's style and face

The art style in SpongeBob has changed over time. For the most part, the colors are simply brighter and the lines bolder. But there have been some more noticeable changes, too. It seems like the entire style of the facial expressions will change depending on the episode. It's like, on episodes where he's really annoying and childish, he'll be drawn with his face looking out of whack a lot. It seems like on those eps, his eyes will be drawn weirder-- I can't explain how, just weirder-- and he'll often have eyebrows, which will look wrong on him. And his nose will go down a lot.

This was the norm for a while, especially during season 4. They used to do it every episode no matter what he acted like. That, along with his new, squeakier voice, now seem to only be employed when we're supposed to think he's annoying. For the most part, he has now gone back to his regular, kinda dorky-cute look. But his expressions can be wildly different sometimes. It's okay, though; aside from a few truly ugly episodes, the art has improved overall.

I love it when he makes really ugly faces for humor, though, no matter what episode or season. XD My personal favorite is on Can You Spare a Dime?

SpongeBob...just a nickname?

It's occured to us all before...why'd they name their kid SpongeBob? That's like naming me HumanAlice, and I sure as heck ain't going by such a name. Really!

I was just thinkin'...maybe it's a nickname?

On the episode Patrick SmartPants, Patrick reffered to SpongeBob as 'Robert'. It was probably just because he thought calling people by their longer, given names sounded intellectual. Still, surely his best friend ever would know his first name, so maybe he is named Robert.

Then, on Blackjack, he had an uncle who called him 'Little Bobby.' Now, I guess Bobby could be a nickname for SpongeBob as well as Robert, but it's interesting.

I seem to recall one episode, he said, "As long as these pants are square, and this sponge is Bob, I will not let you down!!" Most likely, though, he was just being weird. I highly doubt it has anything to do with the subject.

Every single driver's license he's had said "SpongeBob SquarePants" on it. I guess I'm just babbling. It's an interesting thought, but canonically, his given name is SpongeBob until said otherwise.

SpongeBob's Driver's License

SpongeBob will never get his license. We all know that. There've been some times when he came so close-- but alas, he failed. According to Mr. Hillenburg, the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie takes place after all the episodes end. All of them, which is why on the show he's never manager of the Krusty Krab 2. On the movie Patrick states that SpongeBob doesn't have a license, so we know he won't ever get it on the series.

Of course, on the movie he manages to stay calm behind the wheel, drives with relative expertise, given how he drove before. Meaning we know he'll improve.

There's one episode, I don't like it too much, Nautical Novice. The ending is kind of cheap and disappointing, I think. For a second, a brief, shining second, I believed maybe he'd get his license. Or make a really humorous driving mistake and lose it, which I was prepared for. As it turned out, all the cool stuff he did that earned him his license was null and void; he didn't so any of it. Darn. I thought such an ending was especially cruel.

Note that it lists his address as 124 Conch St. Bikini Bottom. It also says he has yellow hair. Hmm...

Season 5 on DVD

What with Church and volunteering to do a ton of chores, I haven't been able to post much today. I'll probably make this today's only post, but it's pretty good news:

"SpongeBob SquarePants: The Complete Fifth Season, Volume 2" DVD comes out November 18th in the US and Canada. One reason this is good is because there's a bit of a dispute over the episode order for season 5, and whether or not there's a twentieth episode in the season (as most seasons of SpongeBob have). Once the DVDs come out, we can get the production codes and find out if there's a "missing" episode other than Goo Goo Gas.

Yeah, Nickelodeon's pretty sloppy when it comes to what episodes they air when. Everything's shown one short at a time, in the wrong order, and now that we're in season 6, season 5 hasn't even finished airing! I think there are probably only 19 episodes in season 5, since nobody's heard anything about an unaired episode other than the aforementioned GGG. I could be wrong, though, knowing Nickelodeon.

Patrick the Shapeshifter

Survival of the Idiots
Patrick said, "That's not disturbing! This is disturbing!" He proceeded to flex his muscles in such a away that a face appeared in his back. Flexing them more, he got it to lip-synch while he said, "Hi, there, SpongeBob! My name is Patback!" But he apparently had some trouble doing this.

Frankendoodle
When DoodleBob threw a bowling ball at Patrick, Pat's head was shaped like a bowling pin. This was just a visual gag, but I wanted to note it. XD

The Battle of Bikini Bottom
During a battle of filth vs. cleanliness with SpongeBob, he decided to pick his nose to gross out SpongeBob. He had to grow one first, though.

Krabby Road
Not only could he extend his belly for us as an instrument, but he also grew and lost hair at will.

Not Normal
Patrick kept asking "normal" SpongeBob what he wanted to do. At one point he asked, "Wanna do this?" He then sucked his head in like a Booba, and it came out his naval.

The Krabby Khronicle

*EXPECT SPOILERS* This was one of the few newest episodes I got to see this past week. I didn't mind it so much, but I saw everyone on the 'net screaming about how bad it was.

Basically, it went like this: Krabs saw how much money a newspaper was making, and decided to start his own, with Spongey as the reporter. SpongeBob wrote dull stories ("Man stares at pole"), so Krabs told him to change the story some: exaggerate, put a little imagination into it! SpongeBob did so, but realized the stories were hurting people and even ruining some's lives. Krabs threatened to take away his spatula and job if he didn't keep writing, so a depressed SpongeBob had to continue writing day and night for hours on end, unsuccessfully trying to convince Krabs to stop.

Some people said it was upsetting when SpongeBob was being unwillingly pushed so hard for days on end. I seriously had never seen him so depressed; he got tons of sympathy from me. But I thought that the "upsetting" parts added more depth to him and made it much more satisfying when he wrote his news story about Mr. Krabs.

I saw some people say that the part where he ignored all the good stories and wrote about Patrick to be irritating. I thought it was a funny display his usual cluelessness. Maybe that's just me...

I have one complaint, though: at the end, Krabs was counterfeiting and didn't get caught. It didn't really provide a joke, and it did nothing for the story. It was a little annoying...very annoying, actually.

I assume that after it was all said and done, Sandy got her awards back, Mrs. Puff got her students back, Larry got back into the gym, and Patrick and the missus were happy. If not, I have some more complaints... :P

This blog got more interesting AGAIN!

This time I put up some comics. I plan to get back to actually blogging again, but I thought it was disappointing that no fansites had much art or comics, and we've gotta have 'em somewhere!

I was thinking...about random stuff...And it occured to me, Mr. Krabs' and and Mrs. Puff's current relationship is less than romantic. They didn't interact much after the episode Krusty Love. On Wishing You Well, she drove past in the hot rod she wished for.
"See, Mr. Krabs? She wished for that boat!"
"You mean she stole that boat!"
Krabs paid her little mind while she was there, than made that comment while she was there.

On The Krabby Khronicle, Krabs was having SpongeBob write a newspaper full of exciting lies about everyone. His first target was Mrs. Puff, whom SpongeBob wrote about being in a high-speed chase against the police. Krabs laughed upon seeing it, but SpongeBob didn't feel good about it. In an attempt to make him, Krabs asked how such a little news story could possibly affect Mrs. Puff in any way. Later in the episode, she's among those who trample Krabs and steal back their money.

But then, on the DVD case for "Bikini Bottom Adventures," she's looking up at him and grinning. And then on the movie, she and Sandy had the following exchange:
"I paid nine dollars for this?"
"I paid ten!"
Mrs. Puff got in for a dollar less than Sandy. Maybe she and Krabs made up?

Come to think of it, what about his first wife? I guess she was a whale, considering there's Pearl and all. Now that I'm on that subject, I might as well note. One time, referring to Sandy, Krabs muttered, "Mammals." and walked off. Whales are mammals. Maybe he holds a grudge against his whale wife...

SpongeBob's Family

I decided to attempt to figure out Spongey's family tree. I was trying to figure out which relatives were on which parents' side.

Finally, I decided on this: SpongeBuck, due to his last name SquarePants, is on SpongeBob's dad's side. He looks exactly like SpongeBob, so it can be assumed that SpongeBob gets his looks and square shape from that side.

SpongeBob's mom doesn't look much like him, except she has his eyes and a similar nose. Family members who looks more like her, but with those features, are probably on her side.

Oh, and on the episode Blackjack, they said SpongeBob's dad was named Harold. Also, Blackjack calls SpongeBob's grandmother "grandma," so I guess she's on his side of the family. And I am just assuming that Blackjack isn't Blue's son, and is the son of somone else on SpongeBob's mom's side.

NONE OF THIS IS CANON. I'M JUST MAKING LOGICAL GUESSES. Well, except maybe SpongeBob's parents getting married and having a kid.

I found this on Nick.de. Forget The Sponge Who Could Fly. This is the real lost episode. :P

There was a season 5 episode entitled Goo Goo Gas. It's the second short on the rarely-aired episode, Le Big Switch, and I'd been reading about it since late season 4. They made it, but for some reason it hasn't aired over here in the US yet. I found half the episode in German, but I can't speak German that well. I know a couple words I learned from watching foreign SpongeBob episodes, but I'm only fluent in English. :

Basically, Plankton creates a gas that turns people into babies. Or something...Anyone know German? XD

I can't upload all my SpongeBob music, though. There's nowhere on Blogger that'll let me do that, and I don't want to take up space on my Kirby website to do it.

Oh, and I now have 209 pictures instead of 202. One of them glitched when I took it onto the flash program, but I thought it was funny, so I uploaded it. It's in the SpongeBob section of the Official Art page.

Who Bob, What Pants?

Howdy! Posting once again, because there's a very important topic I forgot to bring up...the third SpongeBob movie!

In my humble opinion, the first movie was good, and people only watched the second because it had David Bowie. But hey, that's just my opinion. I don't even know who he is...

The third movie, Who Bob, What Pants? is loosely based on the SpongeBob book For the Love of Bubbles. All I know about it is that SpongeBob gets amnesia and runs off, wondering who he is. He ends up becoming the mayor of Kelp City, where the people adore him. SpongeBob's friends find him and try to get him to come home, but from SpongeBob's point of view, it's either

A) Go to some place he's never heard of with a bunch of strangers or
B) Stay in the city where the people see him as a hero.

I've never gotten to read For the Love of Bubbles, so this may be interesting. :) They say the DVD may come out on October fourteenth, but I don't know where that came from.

My quest for official art

I mentioned in my introductory post (I'm Ready!) that I collect SpongeBob official art. I have over 202 large, high quality pictures, actually.

I can't upload them all, though. It'd take too long, and I'm afraid I'd get into legal trouble. But I thought I might talk about how I do it. :)

I used to get them off of NickPages. I would go onto my NickPage, stick a SpongeBob picture on, right click and hit "Zoom In." I'd zoom in until it was so big, I couldn't see it all. Then I'd hit Alt+Print Screen on my keyboard, which copies the entire window.

I'd paste it onto a graphics program. My usual choice is the current version of Serif Photo Plus, but anything with layers and transparency will do. Since the screenshots I got were in pieces, I'd have to turn them translucent so I could see all of them, and piece them together. I'd cut off the little bits of window on every layer, then select everything in the background (which is white and gray, so that's easy) and delete it all. Crop it, save it, and I'm done.

I don't do that too much nowadays, because I've got all the NickPage images. And if I do that, there's no alpha transparency. After that, I went onto Nick.de, clicked the SpongeBob Schwammkopf (his German name) icon, and go onto Downloads. They have a bunch of .pdf files, all with large images I didn't have before. I'd download them and go onto Macromedia Flash Professional 8 (or whatever it's called). I'd go onto File > Import > Import to Stage... choose the file I wanted, and leave the settings as is. I'd delete everything except the picture I wanted, which I would make larger, then go again to File > Export > Export Image... and save it as a .PNG. There you have it, a good, large picture with alpha!

I import other things, too. There were a few SpongeBob screensavers with .swf files in them. I can't remember where they were saved in the directory, though. I also once imported the official site for the movie onto the program, and got a lot of stuff I needed off of that. :D

How I met SpongeBob

'Twas a long time ago. Nine years ago, to be exact.

Back in 1999, my siblings and I always tended to bash anything new or anything we weren't interested in. It probably came out of insecurity having to do with some past incidents, but I won't go into those because this isn't about them.

So! This new show came on. It was about a cute little sponge with buck teeth who worked at a restaurant, liked kah-rah-tay and jellyfishing, and wasn't too bright. Sounds funny, right?

Naw.

My siblings and I immediately starting talking about how dumb it was. Except my youngest brother, who was free from that mindset. None of us ever really watched it that much.

A few weeks later, I was reading a Nickelodeon Magazine (which was much better back in the day). I immediately flipped over to the comics, because that's what I always did. One of the first comics I saw said SpongeBob SquarePants on it in big, bold, letters. Nobody was around. I read the comic once. Or twice. Or thrice, just to get an opinion on it. I liked the comic. Still hated the show.

Soon after that, the aforementioned brother was watching SpongeBob. Like the jerk I was, I told him that he shouldn't be watching it because it was stupid. Not only was I a jerk, but a hypocritical jerk; I was trying to look like I wasn't watching it. It was the very ending of Ripped Pants, followed by Bubblestand. As I left that television, I became a different person; I fell in love.

Maybe that's takin' it a bit far, huh?

SpongeBob's age

I'm mainly writing this because my sister insists he is a child.

The moral of the movie was basically "it's okay to be a kid," with SpongeBob and Patrick as examples of that. Unfortunately, we know they're both at least old enough to drive, and they live on their own.

On The Bully, Patrick said that Flats was his old college friend. I'm not really sure how Patrick got into college, but that's beside the point. There have been a couple images shown on other episodes of SpongeBob and Patrick as babies or young children together, so we can assume they're the same age, and past college.

In the episode The Chaperone, SpongeBob tells Gary that he couldn't even find a date for his high school prom. Gary meows, to which SpongeBob replies, "No, that was Patrick who took his mother." Thus, they are both through high school. It also backs up the fact that they are around the same age.

Aside from all that, he has a full-time job, and it's stated occasionally that he's worked there for years. On the movie, he actually had enough Employee of the Month awards to be in his fifties! But then, on Breath of Fresh Squidward, he had a zillion and six.

I'm not sure who said it, but I remember in the extra features on the movie, it was stated that they didn't mean he was literally a kid. They meant he thought and behaved as one.

DoodleBob. You remember DoodleBob. From the episode Frankendoodle? 'Twas a pretty cool episode. Since I've got the link there I won't bother posting a summary, but I think DoodleBob's so cool...I'm writing a fan fiction trilogy about him. Why? Don't ask.

It's old. It's season 2. Everybody's seen it by now.

But I sure as heck ain't gonna go without writing an entry on SpongeBob's best episode.

It's like this. Squidward gets a call from his old rival, Squilliam Fancyson. Squilliam has made millions doing everything Squidward wishes he could do. Squilliams tells Squidward that his band was going to play in the Bikini Bottom Bubble Bowl. Problem is, Squilliam can't be there, and he was hoping *SQUIDWARD'S* band could play. Squidward stammers for a moment, and Squilliam has a good laugh upon guessing correctly that Squidward doesn't have a band. Squidward lies that he does, and that yes, they will play there.

Squidward attempts to get a band together with all the people of Bikini Bottom. Unfortunately, everyone is hilariously imcompetent and quick to pick a fight. We get to see around eleven minutes of everyone humorously messing EVERYTHING up, shattering all of Squidward's hopes and dreams in the process.

Squid keeps trying, but alas, the night before the Bubble Bowl, the band has not learned anything, and a fight breaks out between them all. Squidward tells them not to show up tomorrow; he'll just say that they died in a marching accident. The others, now feeling maybe a little kinda guilty, watch the heartbroken octopus leave. SpongeBob realizes they have let Squidward down, and decides to keep the band together for one last minute music class that could change the entire episode.

What happens next? PURE AWESOME HAPPENS NEXT.

My bizarre daydreams

And boy, some of them are bizarre. The one I have in mind, though, only kind of is.

I'm a songwriter. I love writing songs and music. I also love SpongeBob. I adore the way he sings. It's so cute! So...weird. I've never really dreamed of going pro or anything, but a few years ago I realized that there is one thing I do want to do with my music...you guessed it...hear Spongey singing it.

I wrote a few songs from his POV three years ago. I picked the one I thought sounded the most like it could be on the show. I've been writing it and rewriting for ages since then, and I like how it currently is. I'm heavily considering recording it and sending it to Nickelodeon.

Problem?

They've GOT people to write their songs, and the last thing they want is some fourteen-year-old hick. I know I'm more than some hick, but they don't. Besides, showing off my enormouse ego would only earn me a rejection slip.

Of course, the worst they could say is no. In fact, it wouldn't even be some crushing loss, because nothing would change. If I tried it, I might actually get lucky. I'd be pretty embarrassed if I didn't, but I'm always embarrassing myself anyway. XD It's practically who I am.

I'm wondering if I should...I won't post the song, but I like it a lot...

I'm Ready!

Yet another attempt at making a blog. I thought I'd pick a subject I'm good with: SpongeBob SquarePants!

My everyday life can get kind of hectic, so I can't promise I'll always be around to post. I'll try to at least post every week, to keep in the habit.

I'll put a little about me here. I've been watching SpongeBob for nine years, and I've seen every episode EXCEPT the ones that aired this week. I can't watch TV until September, which is why I haven't seen them. I have a large collection of SpongeBob official artwork on my computer. I have 202 large, high quality official images with transparency, as well as around 90 pages of comics. I'd like to upload them, but I can't because not only are they too large, but that'd take forever. Along with that I have nearly every song off the show. :D

So, I guess I'll just post whatever SpongeBob-related stuff I want to around here...this might be fun. :D

I have very few Sandy images. I have some trouble cutting her helmet off the colored backgrounds. I tend to have to do some editing, and I try not to do that too much to keep the pictures as official as possible. And those I did edit...some turned out and some saved funny. That and Spongie's broken arm probably make it look like I'm using some really cheap programs...truth is, my computer just doesn't like SpongeBob. O_o

Yeah, I know I said I wouldn't upload any of the official artwork...I lied. The quality varies on all of these, and I got most of 'em before I knew how to get anything with alpha. And one of them has a really weird, disconnected arm, probably due to my flash program messing up.

(The third to last one up there is mostly official; it glitched when I imported it, and I had to trace some messed up parts. But since I just traced over it, there's really no difference; I spent forever making sure it was exact.)
